All are welcome to attend this important event that seeks to:
- To increase non-Aboriginal youth, young adult and adult understanding of Aboriginal communities before contact, during the residential school years and the time following.
- To allow participants through a simulation experience about an aboriginal village, to really seek to understand the experience that has led
Aboriginal people to the place they have lived through and now hold in history and culture
- To hear from Aboriginal Youth and Elders about their own history and experience
- To set personal goals for individual future involvement in building right relations with Aboriginal and non-aboriginal people and communities
Our guest presenter, Kathi Camilleri, is the an aboriginal woman who works with Aboriginal Child and Youth Mental Health in Campbell River, BC. Marion Best (wise elder and past United Church Moderator), Jim White (aboriginal elder and leader), Doris Kizinna (Conference Minister for Youth, Young Adults and their Leaders) and Eric Hamlyn (Vancouver Presbyteries YAYA Facilitator) will help faciliate the programme for the day of experience, conversation and mutual understanding. Kathi’s presentation and simulation exercise has been described as profound, educational and healing. Don’t miss out on your chance to experience the vision of whole and healthy communities, as they once were.
This event is subsidized by the Van Dusen Fund of the United Church of Canada and is sponsored by Youth and Young Adult Ministry at BC Conference and YAYA Ministry for Vancouver-Burrard and South Presbyteries of The United Church of Canada.

The gathering will start at 7pm on Friday, Oct. 30, we’ll have a sleepover and then end at 3pm on Saturday, Oct. 31.
To download a registration form click here.
We gather together in a community of youth, representing congregations from across Vancouver Burrard and South Presbyteries.
We do this with faith and purpose to…
• Have a fabulous, wonderful, super-duper 2 days of fun!
• Meet new friends, see old friends, and build community together
• Share ideas and experiences of youth programming
• Plan presbytery youth events for the upcoming year
• Grow in our faith as individuals and as a youth council
“Youth Council” has been happening for about 18 years now and includes up to 2 representatives from each church in the Vancouver Presbyteries. The people involved have been the creators of the Youth and Young Adult Bursary Fund as well as the designers and leaders of such events as the May Youth Retreat, the Wandering Worships, the Walking the Talk event, and the list goes on. If this sounds like something you might be interested in, talk to your youth leader or call Eric at the YAYA office – 604.321.5753 or eric@vanyaya.bc.ca
